Battery balancing processing is a key technology in battery management systems (BMS), mainly used to solve the inconsistency problem between individual cells in battery packs.

一、 Reasons why batteries need to be balanced

  1. Inconsistencies of individual batteries

Due to factors such as manufacturing processes, material differences, and usage environments, individual cells in battery packs have differences in capacity, internal resistance, voltage, and other aspects. This inconsistency will gradually intensify with the use of the battery, leading to a decline in the performance of the battery pack.

  1. Problems during the charging and discharging process

Over charge : Batteries with smaller capacities may reach their upper limit voltage during charging, triggering overcharge protection and causing other batteries to not be fully charged.

Over discharge: Batteries with smaller capacities may first reach the lower limit voltage during discharge, triggering over discharge protection and causing other batteries to not be fully discharged.

capacity loss:Inconsistencies can reduce the available capacity of the battery pack and shorten its battery life.

  1. life shortening

Inconsistencies can lead to some batteries being overcharged or overdischarged for a long time, accelerating aging and shortening the overall lifespan of the battery pack.

4. potential safety hazard

Overcharging, over-discharging, or uneven temperature may trigger thermal runaway, resulting in battery fire or explosion.
